- Commentary is limited to 3,000 characters; LinkedIn markup characters are escaped automatically.
- An article (link) post needs the link plus a title; LinkedIn fetches the preview itself.
- Multi-image (up to 20) and video posts are possible in the API but not built yet.
- Member (personal profile) posts cannot be measured; analytics are available for organization Pages only.
Access
What the platform requires
- A LinkedIn Developer app associated with a verified LinkedIn Page, with the products "Sign In with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect" and "Share on LinkedIn" (both self-serve).
- The "Community Management API" product (application review required) for organization discovery (rw_organization_admin / r_organization_admin), posting as a Page (w_organization_social) and Page analytics (r_organization_social).
- Programmatic refresh tokens are granted only to approved partner apps; otherwise members must reconnect every 60 days.
- Versioned REST endpoints need the LinkedIn-Version header (YYYYMM, configured as LINKEDIN_API_VERSION); versions are retired roughly a year after release.
- Daily application throttles apply per endpoint (e.g. 150 posts per member per day, 100,000 posts per app per day).
